(SportsNetwork.com) - The Charlotte Hornets won two straight and theyll try and make it three on Wednesday night when the New Orleans Pelicans stop off at Time Warner Cable Arena. The Hornets swept a two-game road trip with wins over the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics. Theyve lost three straight at home and have won more than two games in a row just once this season. On Monday, the Hornets bumped off the Celtics, 104-95, in Boston. It marked the first time Charlotte scored over 100 points since before Christmas, a span of six games. Kemba Walker scored 33 points to help the Hornets top the Celtics. It was Walkers second straight game of at least 30 points and he added five assists and five rebounds versus the Cs. Cody Zeller chipped in 20 points and seven boards for Charlotte. The Hornets led most of the contest, until the Celtics made it close late. They led by 15 with 2 1/2 minutes to go, but Boston scored the next eight points and did not allow Charlotte to hit another shot from the floor. The Hornets hit four free throws in the final minute to hang on. We made plays. We could have got frustrated, we could have got down but we stayed with the game, said Walker. The Pelicans are on the ultimate see-saw at the moment, alternating wins and losses over their last 10 games. They have lost three in a row as the visitor. On Monday, New Orleans fell at home to the Washington Wizards, 92-85. Anthony Davis posted 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyreke Evans provided 21 points, seven boards and four assists for the Pelicans. Jrue Holiday added 13 points and five assists. We were trying to make the right play, but they did a good job of covering up our options, Davis said. The Pelicans never got closer than four with eight minutes to go in the game. New Orleans returns home Friday to play the Memphis Grizzlies, then heads out on a five-game road trip east. The Pelicans beat the Hornets by nine in the Big Easy on Nov. 4. On an Avalanche team that was among the leagues worst possession-wise, Parenteau was nearly break-even, so he wasnt particularly a problem in that respect. In Montreal, Parenteau should have a good opportunity to play in a top-six role, which is suitable for his price tag of $4.0-million over the next two seasons. A fifth-round pick brings with it a less than 15% chance of yielding an NHL player, but its a bit of a sweetener for the Habs taking on an extra year. Given that Montreal is getting the better player, that sweetener might not have been altogether necessary. The Avalanche Get: RW Daniel Briere. Briere is a 36-year-old who is well past his prime as a scoring forward, with a serious decline in productivity over the past couple seasons, managing 41 points in 103 games over the last two years.dddddddddddd Briere was dropped down the Canadiens depth chart last season, playing 12:46 per game, his lowest since 2000-2001. While Brieres game has declined -- hes not as quick as he once was -- he does come with a rep as a playoff performer, putting up 116 points in 124 postseason games over his career, which is tied for fourth among active players. Briere signed a two-year, $8-million deal as a free agent last summer, so his deal has one year remaining. He doesnt figure to play a prominent role in Colorado, but Briere should have a shot to play in Colorados top nine. If he does, theres a decent chance that, even if he scores a little bit more with more ice time, Brieres sinking possession stats will only be exacerbated by the Avalanches puck possession troubles. In the grand scheme of things, the Avalanche got away from two years of paying Parenteau, which was their motivation, but the price to pay means taking an inferior player for one year.
