MORRISTOWN, N.J. -- Mark Sanchez plans on staying put after this season. As unlikely as it may seem because of his hefty contract, the injured quarterback wants to return to the New York Jets. And, Sanchez joked, he could be back with a super-powered arm. "The way things are coming along, it sounds like Ill be bionic," Sanchez said with a big smile Tuesday. "I dont want to say like Rookie of the Year, but hopefully something like that, where Ill come back better." Sanchez is out for the season after tearing the labrum in his right shoulder in the preseason and having surgery early last month. He spoke publicly Tuesday for the first time since his surgery before volunteering at a community soup kitchen at Church of the Redeemer in Morristown. The quarterback has three years remaining on his contract, but his $13.1 million salary cap number for next season makes it unlikely the team would keep him at that amount. If it were up to Sanchez, though, he wouldnt go anywhere. "Thats all Im thinking about, coming back next year, leading this team and playing well," he said. "I know Ive heard a lot of stuff on the outside about me not being here and stuff like that. I dont know if thats necessarily the case in the building. Hopefully, not. Hopefully, Im a Jet. "Thats where I am. Thats where I want to be." When asked if he truly sees a future in New York as the Jets quarterback, Sanchez didnt hesitate. "Absolutely," he said. "I mean, theres no doubt about that. Its been a dream come true to play here and I dont want to go anywhere else, thats for sure. I know I have (three) years left, and I dont ever want that to end. I love being a Jet and I plan on being here." Sanchez has not spoken to the team about his future with the franchise, but it would make financial sense for the Jets to release him in March. Thats when a $2 million roster bonus is due, and the move would save the Jets $8.3 million in cap space. "Well see what happens," he said. Sanchez was injured in the Jets third preseason game against the Giants when Marvin Austin slammed into his shoulder. Coach Rex Ryan was heavily criticized for putting Sanchez in the game in relief of rookie Geno Smith because it was widely assumed the veteran had likely won the quarterback competition -- and was playing with mostly backups and third-stringers at the time of the injury. While his doctors have been happy with his progress, Sanchez acknowledged it has been tough to be a spectator while bouncing between doctor visits in New Jersey, California and Florida. "Its definitely different, something I dont wish on anybody," he said. "Not even on your worst enemy you dont wish this on. Its hard to be away. Its hard to not be in the locker room, be on the plane, be on the bus. Little things like that, you miss it so much. "All the wins, even the tough times, the struggles, it makes you appreciate those times and how much you love being out on the field and how much you love playing." In an ironic twist, the Jets could actually use Sanchez in a big way at this point. He looked mostly solid during the summer in Marty Mornhinwegs system before the injury. "Its just tearing me up that I cant play for him," Sanchez said. Smith is struggling mightily with one touchdown and 10 interceptions in his last six games, but the only other options are inexperienced backup Matt Simms and veteran David Garrard, who hasnt played a regular-season game since 2010. Through it all, Sanchez focuses only on getting back on the field. "This could be a blessing in disguise," he said. "A lot of people have told me that. Its hard to see that while youre going through it, but it does give you a different perspective." NOTES: Sanchez created a stir on Twitter last week when a picture of him wearing his hair in corn rows surfaced. He said it was the result of losing a bet to a friend, and chose the corn rows -- which he had for only a few days and were gone Tuesday -- over shaving his head or dying his hair. "It was pretty bad," he said. "It was ugly." ... Jets owner Woody Johnson was nominated by the team for the NFLs Salute to Service Award, presented by the league and USAA for "commitment to honouring and supporting the military community." Tom Jackson Jersey . Huntelaar also had a penalty saved by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio. The two goals brought Huntelaars total for the season to 18, level with Bayern Munichs Mario Gomez for most in the league. Taylor Bertolet Jersey . Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (OT, McGill) You Should Know: Over the course of his university career, Duvernay-Tardifs commitments to medical school and the family business frequently limited him to one practice per week, yet he was still the Metras Trophy winner as the Top Lineman in CIS football in 2013. Brett Rypien Jersey . -- The Minnesota Vikings released reserve cornerback A.CHESTER, Pa. -- Ricardo Clark scored in the 53rd minute to lift the Houston Dynamo to a 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night. The Dynamo (11-10-7) snapped a four-game winless streak and moved past Union (10-10-9) in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. "It was huge for us," said Houstons Brad Davis, who got his team-leading seventh assist on the score. "Things havent been going the way weve wanted them to lately. It may not have been pretty, but everyone put everything they had into this game tonight. Its important for us to get three points and jump up in the standings." Clark flicked a header off a free kick from Davis for his third goal of the season. Tally Hall got his seventh shutout of the season without having to make a save. "We got a set piece and fortunately I was able to put a good ball in," Davis said. "Guys made good runs to get on the end of it. Sometimes on the road you just get a couple opportunities and we were able to score that one. It feels good." PPhiladelphia extended its winless streak to five matches, scoring just once in that stretch.dddddddddddd "We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and get back to work," said Union defender Amobi Okugo, who returned from serving a two-game suspension. "We have five games remaining and anything can happen. I think we need at least three wins to even have a remote chance." The Union had a goal nullified in the 30th minute when Okugo was called for being offsides. "Its a cruel game sometimes," Union manager John Hackworth said. "We cant catch a break. Thats not the reason that were sitting here feeling the way we are, but sometimes you need the ball to bounce your way a bit and not have outside factors take goals away." Philadelphia leading scorer Jack McInerney entered as a substitute for Danny Cruz in the 61st minute but went scoreless for his 12th consecutive game. Dynamo manager Dominic Kinnear and midfielder Boniek Garcia both missed the game while serving suspensions.
