The NBA pre-season is upon us and hope springs eternal for 30 teams. Cant wait. How time flies. Im starting my 16th year as a Toronto Raptors broadcaster and this is my sixth year with TSN. I feel very fortunate to be involved in the sport I love and to have the opportunity to be part of it in a lot less stressful way than my previous career as a coach. Its fun and you folks with your passion for hoops make it awesome. Thanks for your support and look forward to enjoying lots of great basketball moments together in 2013-14 and beyond. Lets quickly touch on a few NBA topics. 1. Glen Grunwald (Knicks): Totally bizarre that he was removed as GM. He did a better than good job there in his roles with the organization. Very strange but in the world of owner James Dolan, nothing shocks me. Feel for Grunwald; good basketball man who is very low key. Dont be fooled by his quiet demeanor, hes a sharp guy and very competitive. I know that life is unfair but this is a time where you just shake your head and feel awful for a guy. Steve Mills is the new president & GM; a stunning return to MSG for him. One of those moments where you say to yourself, You cant make this nonsense up! 2. Derriok Rose (Bulls): Thrilled that hes healthy and back practicing with his team. If there is one guy (if 100 per cent healthy) that can dramatically change the makeup of the Eastern Conference, its this guy. Impact guy with explosive ability. The Miami Heat are obviously the team to beat with the Pacers, Nets and Knicks all in the hunt. Rose will put the Bulls right back in the elite discussion again if it all works out and Im cool with that. Its great for the sport. 3. Erik Spoelstra (Heat): Outstanding move by owner Micky Arison and president Pat Riley to get him locked up on a long-term deal. He fits the organizational approach/mindset of the Heat exactly and is an outstanding young coach. Stability is crucial to any good franchise and the coaching leadership is paramount. Hes proven himself to me time and time again as a guy who is one of the elite rising coaches in the game today. 4. Channing Frye (Suns): Reports out of Phoenix are that hes close to coming back after missing last season with heart ailment. Good for him. Have always liked his ability as a stretch perimeter guy and is a team player who gives it his all. Any time you can have a floor spacer like Frye on the court it helps dramatically with the flow/spacing and efficiency of your offense. Hopefully, it works out for him. 5. Toronto 2016 NBA All-Star Game and Drake: Lots of news out of Toronto with the announcement of the 2016 NBA All Star game and Drakes involvement with the Raptors. Ive been saying for years that getting the All-Star Weekend is a good thing for Toronto and will be a nice opportunity for the organization and city to showcase itself as a place that has amazing potential (it does!) as a viable NBA destination as well as (if run properly) a place where a franchise can be a significant player (it can be!) in the NBA landscape. The involvement of Drake doesnt hurt one bit. Were in the recruitment and retention business. If he can even help a little bit with the recruitment of a player and/or helping a current player who is on the fence about life as an NBA Player in Toronto stick with his commitment, then why not try it. Worth a shot. In my 16 Years doing this in Toronto, Ive seen more than my fair share of the attempts to win press conferences with the glitz and glitter and then Day 2 and beyond, it fizzles. Never confuse activity for achievement. Sooner or later, as the Raptors start Year 19 in the NBA, youve got to see results and those results on a consistent basis. If this helps that, wonderful. Let it rip. All for it. At the end of the day, all fans want is the durable, solid level of success/results of teams like the San Antonio Spurs, New England Patriots, St. Louis Cardinals and the New Jersey Devils. Substance ultimately overrules style. In the words of Al Davis, Just Win Baby! Nike Blazer Shoes Online . That assertion is getting harder and harder to make, especially given the way 23-year-old Danilo Gallinari has been playing this season. Nike Blazer Shoes For Sale . -- Louisville backup quarterback Reggie Bonnafon ran for two touchdowns and passed for another and the No. http://www.wholesalenikeblazer.com/. Louis Blues are reportedly taking restricted free agent forward Vladimir Sobotka to arbitration. Nike Blzer Cheap . I kept my eyes focused up on the camera during each approach. I just tried to stay focused on my form, as I didnt know what the ball reaction was. I was quite emotional at the end. I did not actually see any of the shots in the game until I got home and watched the video. Cheap Blazer For Sale . Doug Fister allowed two runs over seven innings and Washington hit three solo homers in a 6-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.Trick plays stand out in a Super Bowl a little like clown suits at a cocktail party. In this highest-of-high-stakes contest, the appetite for NFL coaches whose strategies lean more conservative than not is typically low for gadgets and gimmicks. Surprising the other team with a safety blitz or deep pass, sure, but the risk of true trickery can be steep with a title on the line.Yes, the reward of a valuable touchdown remains. Mess up a trick play in a game of this magnitude and lose a close one in the end? Well, good luck living that decision down, coach, for the rest of your career.Perhaps another gimmick or two will emerge next week in Arizona when New England plays Seattle. The Patriots threw a touchdown pass to left tackle Nate Solder in the AFC championship game, after all, and the Seahawks scored on a fake field goal toss by punter Jon Ryan to spur their comeback victory for the NFC title. For now, heres a list of the best trick plays in Super Bowl history:AMBUSH IN MIAMIOnside kicks are expected at the end of the game when the trailing team is running out of time, but New Orleans stunned Indianapolis and everyone else watching the game by recovering the kickoff to start the second half in Miami after the 2009 season. The play was called ambush, a stutter-step tap by rookie kicker Thomas Morstead out of a standard formation that came with the Colts leading 10-6. The Saints responded with their first touchdown six plays and 58 yards later and went on to win 31-17.Payton was inspired by his mentor Bill Parcells, one of the boldest coaches in history. Payton drew praise from President Barack Obama at the White House ceremony for the first-time champions.I make some tough decisions every day, but Ive never decided on an onside kick in the second half of the Super Bowl. That took some guts, Obama said.SECOND-HALF SPARKTwenty-three years earlier, Parcells was the coach who saw the opening for a surprise with his team trailing at the break. The New York Giants lined up for a punt on fourth-and-1 near midfield when backup quarterback Jeff Rutledge moved up behind centre before the snap. He took it 2 yards on a sneak, and Phil Simms had them in the end zone five plays later for a 16-10 lead over Denver at the Rose Bowl stadium.Later in the third quarter, Parcells struck again. With the Broncos focused on stopping the run, Joe Morris took a handoff he flipped back to Simms, who found Phil McConkey wide open for a 44-yard completion on the flea flicker.dddddddddddd. With a touchdown on the next play, the Giants were up by 16 points and went on to win handily.STICK IT TO EMThe Super Bowl after the 1977 season was held in New Orleans, where Dallas had a 10-point lead midway through the fourth quarter. After Denver lost a fumble on a sack at its 29-yard line, Cowboys coach Tom Landry called for the kill shot. Running back Robert Newhouse took a pitch and ran left before stopping to throw right to Golden Richards for the game-sealing touchdown.Newhouse said later he was nervous in the huddle because of an excess of Stickum, the now-banned substance once used by skill-position players to grip the ball more easily, on his hands.Preston Pearson handed me this rag, and I was in there scrubbing it all, Newhouse said in an interview with The Dallas Morning News.LET EM HAVE ITTrick plays arent only for the offence. Green Bay, the champion after the 1996 season, was going for back-to-back titles the following year in San Diego. With the game tied after the two-minute warning, Packers coach Mike Holmgren liked his teams chance of scoring another touchdown with the ball back better than stopping Denver on second-and-goal from the 1. So they let Terrell Davis into the end zone without trying to tackle him.The strategy almost worked. The Packers had 105 seconds left and drove to the 31, but the Broncos held on for the 31-24 victory.STEELERS SURPRISELeading Seattle by four points early in the fourth quarter in Detroit after the 2005 season, Pittsburgh got the ball back with an interception at its 5-yard line. A return, a penalty and three plays later, coach Bill Cowher made a bold call.Running back Willie Parker handed off to wide receiver Antwaan Randle El on a first-and-10 reverse from the Seahawks 43. Then Randle El, a former college quarterback at Indiana, halted his run and heaved the ball to a wide-open Hines Ward for the 21-10 final score. Thats the only touchdown pass by a wide receiver in Super Bowl history. When we called it, my eyes lit up and I had to try to not give it away, Randle El said.___AP NFL websites: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Wholesale Hoodies NFL Shirts Outlet Jerseys NFL Wholesale Cheap NFL Jerseys Free Shipping Wholesale Jerseys Cheap Cheap NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
