LOS ANGELES -- The injury-ridden Los Angeles Lakers already have spent so much time playing without Kobe Bryant, losing him again for an extended period wont take them in uncharted territory. Xavier Henry, the fourth player to start at point guard this season for coach Mike DAntoni, scored 21 points and the Lakers began another long stretch without their 15-time All-Star by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 104-91 Friday night. Bryant is expected to miss at least six weeks because of a fracture in his left knee, which occurred Tuesday night at Memphis when he fell to the court late in the third quarter of the Lakers 96-92 win. The NBAs fourth all-time leading scorer finished that game, hitting a clutch 3-pointer to help seal the win. But an MRI on Thursday revealed the injury. Bryant missed the first 19 games of the season while recovering from surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon, an injury that occurred on April 12 -- with two games left before the playoffs. "It just prepared us," Henry said. "I mean, we started without him, and right now unfortunately were without him again. But we know we can play. We know we can win games, and we have the confidence that we have other people that can do the job." The Lakers returned from a 2-2 road trip and ended a three-game home losing streak. Pau Gasol, the only player to start all 26 games for the Lakers, had 21 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. Reserve Nick Young scored 25 points, including a 4-point play that gave the Lakers a lead after Corey Brewer fouled him behind the arc with 2:37 left in the third quarter. "We played to our strengths," Henry said. "I mean, me and Nick can attack them in different ways. Jodie Meeks can shoot it, and weve got a guy like Pau whos a really good playmaker." Bryant, who last month signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract extension at age 35, made his return Dec. 8 and played just six games -- all in 10 days. The 18-year veteran averaged over 32 minutes in the last three while shifting to point guard because of injuries to Steve Nash, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar. The 39-year-old Nash, a two-time MVP who hasnt played since Nov. 10 because of back and hamstring issues, has played as many games as Bryant -- and will remain sidelined at least four more weeks with nerve root irritation in his back. Blake missed his fifth game because of a torn ligament in his right elbow, and Farmar sat out his eighth due to a torn left hamstring. DAntoni used his 11th starting lineup, and Henry shot 8 for 19 and had four assists in 42 minutes. As a team, the Lakers had 27 assists despite the absence of a bona fide point guard. "They understand the moment and they understand that this is their opportunity," DAntoni said. Kevin Love scored 20 of his 25 points in the first half and grabbed 13 rebounds for Minnesota, but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter. The Lakers broke open a tight game with 3-pointers by Gasol and Young to help extend their lead to 100-91 with 2 minutes remaining. They outscored Minnesota 9-0 over the final 3:18. Nikola Pekovic had 22 points and 13 boards, but Brewer finished with just five points after missing all eight field goal attempts. Point guard Ricky Rubio missed the morning shootaround because he wasnt feeling well. He played 30 minutes, finishing with six points, seven assists and six rebounds. Love powered the Timberwolves to a 53-51 halftime lead, fueling an 18-3 run with seven points in a 1:50 span to help turn an 11-point deficit into a 51-47 lead in the final minute of the second quarter. "No energy. We have to be better than that," Minnesota coach Rick Adelman said. "They outworked us all night long. It was a poor game on our part. " NOTES: Henry was the 12th overall pick in the 2012 draft, by Memphis. His older brother C.J. was the 17th overall pick in the 2005 baseball draft, by the Yankees. ... This is the first time since moving from Minneapolis to Los Angeles that the Lakers have failed to go more than a game over .500 through their first 26 games in back-to-back seasons. ... Love has fouled out only once in 313 NBA games. It was against the Lakers on Jan. 30, 2009 -- as a reserve -- in a 132-119 loss at Minnesota. Wholesale Air Jordan 3 Uk . One day earlier, though, fellow Toronto Maple Leafs centre Nazem Kadri wasnt so sure his home and native land could pull off the win against the United States in the semi-finals of the Olympic hockey tournament.WINNIPEG -- B.C.s Adam Bighill had the game of his life Friday as he helped force at least three turnovers on the way to a 53-17 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and lock down a playoff spot for the Lions. "Thats probably stats-wise one of the most impressive professional games Ive ever played," he said. "Its not something you go out there and try to do. You just go out there and play every down and what happens happens." The first quarter was a comedy of errors for the Bombers, who opened with a turnover as Will Ford bobbled a lateral from quarterback Max Hall on his first play of the game. Bighill, a linebacker, snatched it up in the scramble and took it 30 yards for the Lions first touchdown. One way or another, the Lions defence accounted for most of their points, with three touchdowns in the first half alone. "The defence putting up points like that, it doesnt come very often," said Bighill. That first was just one of seven turnovers for the Bombers (2-11), who had two touchdowns from Clarence Denmark and a field goal from Sandro DeAngelis. Bighill, Nick Moore, Dante Marsh, Cord Parks, Andrew Harris and quarterback Thomas DeMarco had touchdowns for the Lions (9-4). Paul McCallum added three field goals and a couple of singles. DeMarco said the big thing is locking up the playoff spot. "We played a tremendous game, offence, defence and special teams," said the backup, after just his second start and second win since replacing an injured Travis Lulay. "Were heading in the right direction and its just one more win to where we want to go." It was unpleasant all around for the Bombers and their fans, many of whom left early on a cool night with sporadic showers. Buck Pierce got the biggest cheer of the night when he took over from DeMarco in the third quarter. Winnipeg traded Pierce to B.C. at mid-season. Joey Elliott, cut by the Bombers as well before the season started, also saw a little action late in the game for the Lions. The Bombers poor play hasnt helped but a cool night and showers also left the stands emptier than they have been all season. Winnipegs defence was far more effective than the Bombers offence and defensive back Brandon Stewart was clearly frustrated. "We did everything that we could do. We gave them multiple chances on offence," he said. "Defensively we could do notthing but watch it.dddddddddddd Were on the sidelines. We cant run off the sidelines and go out and tackle people." Coach Tim Burke said the defence played hard. "They were getting banged up but they hung in there." But he had nothing good to say about his offence. "It was pathetic." The Bombers have maintained at least a veneer of optimism in the CFL East where they have maintained a mathematical chance of making the playoffs. But that too slipped Friday night. "You keep playing for something," said veteran offensive lineman Glenn January. "If the playoff picture is out of the question now youve got to play for your jobs, youve got to play for your paycheque, youve got to play for your family back home watching you, youve got to play for the name on the back of your jersey." Things looked up briefly in the first quarter for the Bombers after Hall executed a four-play 54-yard drive and connected with Denmark to tie it less than three minutes later. But a coverage gap let DeMarco cap his own short drive with a throw to a wide-open Moore, who strolled into the end zone. The Bombers werent done with first-quarter gaffes. Ford and Denmark were back to take the kick and basically just watched McCallums 80-yarder bounce between them for a single. Hall was intercepted in the second quarter on his own 28-yard line, which set up McCallums 34-yard field goal at 9:24 to make it 18-7. A little over five minutes later Hall was closing in on the B.C. goal line when he was intercepted again and Dante Marsh returned it 79 yards for another touchdown. Another single on a 50-yard punt from McCallum made it 26-7 and then Akeem Foster fumbled a pass from Hall and set up Parks 45-yard touchdown return. With about a minute left in the first half, though, Hall connected with Denmark again with a 35-yarder to make it 33-14. Jason Boltus came in for Hall in the second half and on his first play threw an interception that led to DeMarcos one-yard run for B.C.s second offensive touchdown. Harris made it 47-14 with a 16-yard run just before the third quarter ended. Boltus fumbled on a throw on his own 11-yard line to set up McCallums 12-yard field goal. DeAngelis kicked a 30-yard field goal with 5:49 left to make it 50-17 but McCallum added another three points for the Lions as well with about a minute and a half left.
