MONTREAL -- Two-time major champion Li Na pulled out of the Rogers Cup and the U.S. Open on Thursday because of a knee injury she said has bothered her for several months. The only tennis player from China to win a Grand Slam singles title also withdrew from next months hard-court tournament in Cincinnati. "I wanted to let all of my great fans know that unfortunately I am going to have to withdraw from the upcoming WTA events in Montreal and Cincinnati, as well as the US Open," she said in a statement released by Tennis Canada. "Since March, I have been struggling with my knee and it is just not where I need it to be in order to play at the highest level. My medical team has advised me that I need to take some time off to rest my knee so it heals. "I look forward to getting back on the court this fall in Wuhan and Beijing." Li played in the last four editions of the Rogers Cup. In 2012, she reached the final in Montreal before falling to Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic. As a result of the withdrawal, Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., becomes the fifth seed at the Aug. 1-10 tournament at Uniprix Stadium. Shell get a first-round bye along with the other top eight seeds. Also Thursday, tournament organizers announced that Yvonne Meusburger of Austria will miss the event and American players Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and Alison Riske will enter the main draw. The official draw will be held Friday and the qualification rounds begin Saturday. Li did not specify which knee was injured, but she played with her right knee taped up at Wimbledon, her most recent tournament. The U.S. Open begins Aug. 25. Li won the Australian Open in January for her second major title. She also won the 2011 French Open. In May, Li lost in the first round of the French Open, beaten by a player ranked 103rd. At Wimbledon in June, Li bowed out in the third round. cytujWys³any: 2019-03-22 02:49:55 Temat postu: consecutive 50-win seasons with a lacklustre
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Blake Griffin had 27 points and 14 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Clippers made it consecutive 50-win seasons with a lacklustre 106-98 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night. The Clippers became the ninth NBA team to have different head coaches guide the club to 50 victories in back-to-back seasons. They reached the mark five games earlier under Doc Rivers than they did last season under Vinny Del Negro, when they set a franchise record with 56 wins and captured their first division title before losing to Memphis in the opening round of the playoffs. This is Rivers fifth 50-win season as a head coach, including four with Boston. Chris Paul had 14 points and seven assists for the Clippers, who have won 13 of 14 overall and a season-best eight straight at home. Griffin had his 29th consecutive game with at least 20 points, the longest streak by a Clippers player since the franchise relocated from San Diego in 1984-85. Ramon Sessions had a season-high 28 points for the Bucks, who have lost eight in a row and are a league-worst 13-58. They are 1-19 on the road since beating the Lakers by 15 points at Staples Center on New Years Eve — their only road win against a Western Conference team. Power forward Ersan Ilysova sat out on the second night of a back-to-back set because of a sore right ankle that has bothered him all season. Beleaguered coach Larry Drew used his 26th starting lineup, inserting Jeff Adrien in Ilysovas spot and Sessions at shooting guard because of rookie Nate Wolters broken left hand. It was the first start for both players since they joined the Bucks in a Feb. 20 trade that sent Luke Ridnour and Gary Neal to Charlotte. Sessions made his first six shots and finished 13 for 21 from the field, scoring 11 points during a 3:43 span down the stretch. Adrien had 14 points and seven rebounds. They were the 15th and 16th players to start a game for the Bucks this season. Los Angeles never trailed, extending its five-point halftime lead to 71-60 on Darren Collisons three-point play with 5:34 left in the third quarter. The Bucks got as close as 82-80 on back-to-back dunks 28 seconds apart by John Henson, but Glen Davis responded with consecutive layups and Jamal Crawford scored seven points during a 3:52 stretch, including a 3-pointer that gave Los Angeles a 99-92 edge with 3:08 to play. The Clippers built a 33-18 lead late in the first quarter after centre DeAndre Jordan and forward Matt Barnes got in early foul trouble. Jared Dudley, who spent the previous four games on the bench, provided a brief spark with a 17-footer and a 3-pointer 50 seconds apart to give Los Angeles a 45-38 lead with 8:03 left in the half. The Bucks have gone more than a year since the last time they won consecutive games — March 17-19, 2013, when they beat Orlando and Portland. Both games were in Milwaukee. NOTES: Los Angeles came in with the leagues best 3-point defence (33.1 per cent), and Milwaukee had the worst (38.4 per cent). The Clippers finished 8 for 18 behind the arc, and the Bucks were 5 for 13. ... The teams met for the first time since Jan. 27, when the Clippers ended their seven-game Grammy road trip with a 114-86 rout. Paul missed that game because of a separated shoulder. ... The Clippers are 31-5 at home, and the Bucks are 5-31 on the road. ... The Bucks have lost six straight and 13 of 14 to the Clippers in Los Angeles. ... The Clippers head out on a five-game trip before ending the regular season with five of six at Staples Center. Cheap Adidas Shoes Australia Online . Lions tonight. Not only do the Stamps want to start the 2013 CFL season with a strong showing, they also want to win for their fans who have been affected by the devastating floods in southern Alberta. The game can be seen live on TSN and TSN Mobile TV beginning at 10pm et/7pm pt. "Im ready to go out there and just give the stadium and the community something to be cheerful and happy about due to the flooding and everything with whats been going on," said Calgary kick returner/receiver Larry Taylor. "A lot of families are dealing with a lot of emotional things, being evacuated out of their places. "Hopefully we can come out here and put on a good performance on Friday night and give the fans something to take their minds away from what theyre dealing with personally." Representatives from the Canadian Red Cross will be on hand at McMahon Stadium on Friday night to collect donations for the flood relief effort. "It has been an extremely difficult week for the city of Calgary and our hearts truly go out to all the people who have been displaced and affected by the flood," said Calgary coach and general manager John Hufnagel. "This is an incredibly challenging time for so many Calgarians. This football team is looking forward to providing a little boost to our city for a few hours Friday night at McMahon Stadium. "I know the Stampeder fans are very avid fans that have been waiting for this all off-season." B.C. coach Mike Benevides offered up his condolences to those who were affected by the flooding. "I obviously want to let everybody in Calgary know that were certainly thinking about them and our thoughts and prayers are with them," Benevides said. "My hope is (Friday) night we give them three hours of distraction and an exciting game."Running back Jon Cornish said that he expects the atmosphere at McMahon to be extremely emotional leading up to the opening kickoff. "What happened here in Calgary has hurt so many peoples lives a killed people," Cornish said. "If theres one thing we can do tomorrow to help this city, its win." Cornish added that it wont be an easy task for Calgary against a tough B.C. defence, but that the Stampeders are up for the challenge. "They have a huge amounnt of experience back there and their defensive line is quite impressive," Cornish said.dddddddddddd. "Its always really fun for me to play against them because its a great opportunity to see where we are and how well we can deal with the best." Via his twitter account ((at)jonnycornish), Cornish stated: "So its decided, for this game I will be donating $10 a yard to the Red Cross. Lets hope BCs defense doesnt have a problem with that!" While impressed with Cornishs generous offer, Lions linebacker Adam Bighill said he and the rest of the B.C. defence will do their utmost to contain Cornish. "In a way that sucks, but in a way, weve got to get our job done too," Bighill said. "Hes a good player and a feature player for them. Youve always got to know where their weapons are and hes definitely one of them and he touches the ball a lot." Veteran receiver Nik Lewis also said that hes looking forward to seeing how the Stamps match up against B.C. "Its a great way to start the season off," Lewis said. "Its a Western Division opponent, one of the top teams since Ive been here. Its a great way for us to focus in and see what weve got early." Calgary quarterback Drew Tate, whos looking to rebound from an injury-plagued 2012 season, said he cant wait to take to the field on Friday night to play in front of a packed house. "I think were all really excited about this opportunity not only just for ourselves and our team but for the city also," Tate said. Meanwhile, the Lions will be out to avenge a 34-29 setback at home to Calgary last November in the West Final. "You do remember the last game you played and it was a bittersweet one," said B.C. quarterback Travis Lulay. "Calgary came into our place and earned that one. It just teaches you if you havent been humbled yet in sports that you earn every single win. "We found that out in playoffs the hard way. Thats sports. Youve got to come back. Youve got to have a short memory." Lulay added that the Lions will definitely have their work cut out for them against the Stamps. "We have a ton of respect in our locker room for this Calgary football team and rightfully so," Lulay said. "This is a great test for us. We just want to go out and see if all the hard work we put in at camp can be used on game day." ' ' '
